What Is reiki?
Reiki is a gentle healing practice based on ancient traditions found in many cultures. However, Reiki, was systemized in Japan at the beginning of the 20th century.
Reiki views the body as a dynamic energy system and works to resolve blocks, impediments and disturbances in an individual’s energy or flow. Techniques used in Reiki are non-invasive, sometimes involving light touch, other times involving no direct contact with the body, but instead interaction with the energy field around the body. By working with Reiki, a practitioner can foster deep relaxation and activate innate healing processes within an individual, addressing needs within the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the whole being. Reiki has been shown to diminish pain and tension, ease breathing and stimulate metabolic and circulatory processes. Large hospitals such as Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins offer reiki, particularly for pre-surgery and oncology patients.
Individuals respond to reiki in a variety of ways: sometimes, they simply become deeply relaxed. Other times, they release emotions and tension they’ve been holding. And still others experience insights into their own healing, great relief from pain, and smooth sailing through surgeries and other procedures meant to repair the body.
A reiki session with me is typically performed on a massage table in a peaceful environment and lasts around an hour, but it all depends on what the body communicates during that time.
The best way to receive reiki is with an openness and surrender to whatever it may offer your body.
About Me . . . and Reiki
My journey to becoming a reiki practitioner started with my own healing journey. For three decades, I suffered from migraines, compounded by post-viral symptoms of a tick bite and hormonal crises. Countless tests, one surgery and endless lost days resulted in financial stress, loss of faith in our medical system and profound self-doubt, perpetuated by doctors telling me I was a hypochondriac without ever considering the context of my whole self. I am an optimist by nature and I love life so profoundly that there are days when I can feel my cells expanding with every ounce of living. I love all life, from the tiniest microorganism in the soil to the blue whales and elephants, the ancient trees and the stars long gone. Even with that love, I contemplated ending my own life, time and again, over those three decades, because of these symptoms.
It was a long path of self-discovery and an accumulation of coping strategies and healing practices that finally led me to do a brain retraining program in February of 2023 (called Lightning Process). At the same time, I was inspired to sign up for Reiki levels I and II because I wanted more tools to help the animals on my farm (who are a big part of my life) with their own healing processes. It couldn’t have been more serendipitous. Through Lightning Process, I learned to take my healing into my own hands and successfully ended my decades of suffering. Through reiki, that sense of empowerment was reinforced and I learned how to foster self healing in others (including helping my beloved cat cure her asthma). At the end of my initial reiki training, I knew that I wanted to continue exploring this healing tradition and didn’t hesitate to sign up for reiki master certification (or reiki level III as many of us prefer to call it). All of my formal training thus far, has been done with Inner Peace Reiki in Missoula, MT. I have been taught by Neil Chaput de Saintonge, in the Usui Reiki lineage. This training required me to complete a number of practice sessions, as well as do a special project and present on that topic, in order to receive my certificate. My special topic was focused on reiki with animals and I spent time working with animals in numerous settings, including the shelter setting. I was lucky enough to be mentored by an experienced animal reiki practitioner at the same time. I also wasn’t prepared for how much I would enjoy my sessions with people—and that is what led me to starting Meridian Reiki. While I simply consider myself a perpetual student of reiki and a conduit for healing, I have seen reiki benefit many people and animals in my life and am passionate about helping others to find their way in their own path of healing and realizing their fullest potential.
If I can do it, so can you,
and I would be honored
to support you in your journey.
